Is there any benefit from scratching in a DJ set?
Now with the likes of the S8 and newer controllers is there any need for learning / using scratching techniques.
Scratching has many levels and takes time, energy and practice to improve these skills. However it can be useful in the armoury of a DJ.
It can be used to mix music especially where there is a change in genre, or bpm or key.
It can make loops more interesting.
The key like with effects is not to overuse it so that it takes over from the music in the set. However used judiciously and in the right places it can add an air of professionalism to your DJ set.
Happy scratching !!!
